KOHIMA, MARCH 11
All India Mahila Congress (AIMC) General Secretary and In-charge of northeast, Jarjum Ete said the Congress party is opposed to Hindutva agenda of the BJP which is controlled by RSS, VHP and Sangh Parivar.
Speaking at the 125th birth anniversary of Dr BR Ambedkar-cum-training of State Congress workers here at Congress Bhavan today, Jarjum also an activist of human right movement from Arunachal Pradesh said Dr Ambedkar gave imagery about the equality of the lowliest of human being under the casteist Hindu India.
As the constitution of India implies equality for all men and women as fellow citizens, Jarjum said, “as tribal people of northeast we are equally responsible for the welfare and integrity of the country, and we will stand by the constitution written by the founding father of the Indian constitution”.
She said, secularism is to make inclusive of all people of the country including tribals of the Northeast region, and pointed out that the tribals have retained genetic sense of ‘liberal nation state or liberated souls’, unlike many of counterparts who have been turned into very poor dalits or the untouchables.
An activist for women’s right, Jarjum appealed to party leaders and workers to ensure parity of women’s participation within the organization. ‘If we are to make sure that the dream of Dr Ambedkar of equal participation of all citizens in the eyes of the Indian secular state’ Jarjum said ‘women must be given opportunity in all organs of the society,’ and implored the menfolk to encourage, induct and mobilize the womenfolk of the state to participate in all frontal bodies and also the general panel body of the organization of the state.
Highlighting on the life history of Dr BR Ambedkar, Dr Jayakumar, Secretary AICC in-charge Nagaland said Dr Ambedkar, the principal architect of the constitution of India is the greatest Indian that the country had ever seen, and described him as a jurist, economist, educationist, social reformer and undisputed politician.
He also said Dr Ambedkar is an iconic man who has impacted the lives of the people of the country, and who with a stroke of pen has removed the ghost of untouchability, and changed the system of India by bringing equality, liberty and fraternity to the people of India.
Alleging that some party is claiming the legacy of Dr Ambedkar’s philosophy, Dr Jayakumar said the philosophy of Dr Ambedkar and RSS are miles apart, and slammed the RSS for trying to distort the philosophy of the great man according to their own terms.
The programme was chaired by Janathan Ao, General Secretary, NPCC while P Leonard Aier, Principal Dimapur Law College spoke on the constitution and judiciary.
