Dimapur, July 7: Weeks of incessant heavy monsoon rain has caused damages to the Liangmen Bridge at Japukong range in Mokokchung district on Sunday morning; weakening its structure and thus, rendering traffic impossible.
The bridge functions as a lifeline, connecting villages under Japukong range.
According to a source, people living in Japukong range have been enduring untold hardship for the past many decades and are continuing to face untold miseries due to frequent damages to the wooden bridge. This is the fourth time in three years that the bridge has been damaged, it was informed.
“The Longchem subdivision has been receiving incessant heavy rainfall for the past few weeks causing mudslides and flash floods in the area,” according to the source.
It was also mentioned that the matter has already been reported to the department concerned numerous times but the authorities have failed to respond till date.
While talking to
Eastern Mirror, the EAC of Longchem subdivision Athrong Quinker said that he had informed the deputy commissioner of Mokokchung and some engineers about the incident.
According to the EAC, a meeting will be conducted on Monday to discuss the necessary steps.
