CHANGKI — Advisor for Transport and Technical Education Temjenmenba launched the Jangpetkong Road Construction (Phase-I) at Orija Salang in Changki village under Mokokchung district on October 30.
The upgrade of the road from Changki X Junction to Tuli has been divided into three phases under the Central Road Infrastructure Fund (CRIF) scheme.
Covering a total distance of 62 km, the project will connect 10 villages, an EAC headquarters and other areas.
Phase-I covers a length of 20 km from Changki X Junction to Mongchen (Dibuia) at a project cost of INT 39.71 crore.
Temjenmenba underscored that connecting the entire stretch of the Jangpetkong range had been a long-cherished dream of the people and that the dream had finally come true after more than 30 years of waiting. He described the road upgrade as a people’s project.
Pointing out that all development activities—hospitals, schools and economic uplift of the people in the range—begin with road connectivity, he appealed to all stakeholders and village councils in the range to extend full support and cooperation for timely completion of the project.

He acknowledged Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio for placing the project on the priority list and Minister for PWD (R&B) G Kaito Aye for his cooperation.
He also appealed to the people of the range to adopt a positive mind-set so that the project is not affected or delayed, noting that it needs to be completed within the two-year timeline as per project guidelines.
Temjenmenba assured the people that the road project was only the beginning, as the constituency requires more development and has many grievances that need to be addressed.
“I want to work not as an MLA but as a social reformer for the constituency,” he said, adding, “to advance with the rest of the constituency in the state, we need to work together and we need leaders. Therefore, let us start doing good works.”
He requested the contractor to execute the work strictly as per the guidelines and the Detailed Project Report (DPR), ensuring better workmanship, quality, transparency and accountability.
Executive Engineer, PWD (R&B), Mangkolemba sub-division, declared that the department’s doors were open to the people to share technical details and clarify doubts regarding the single-lane upgrade of the road from Changki X Junction to Tuli.
He informed that there was no provision for land or damage compensation neither under the project, nor for development of junctions as stated in the DPR.
He added that many adjoining junctions and connecting lanes along the stretch would be affected during the upgradation process and called upon the people of the range to make collective contributions from all corners for the project’s success.
He also directed the firm to begin road clearance immediately along the Phase-I stretch to make the road pliable for vehicles.
Niholu Ayemi, Director of MS Ayemi Enterprises, assured the people of the range that once the camp and machineries were stationed, work would start in full swing and continue until completion as per DPR specifications. He requested full support and cooperation from the people of Jangpetkong.
Short speeches were also delivered by the president of Jangpetkong Senso Mungdang, village council chairmen from all villages under the Jangpetkong range, the president of Jangpetkong Kaketshit Telongjem Mungdang, Jangpetkong Tetsur Telongjem and the president of NPF 29 Jangpetkong Assembly Constituency.
