Jalukie wins ‘Promising Clean City’ award for Nagaland at Swachh Survekshan 2024-25

KOHIMA — Jalukie town has been recognised as the ‘Promising Clean City’ of Nagaland under the State Level Awards category at the Swachh Survekshan 2024-25 Awards. The award was presented by Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, in the presence of Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Tokhan Sahu and other dignitaries, at a ceremony held in New Delhi on Thursday.


Representing Nagaland at the event were Advisor for Urban Development and Municipal Affairs Zhaleo Rio, Commissioner and Secretary for Municipal Affairs Kekhrievor Kevichüsa, and other officials.


The Swachh Survekshan Awards are part of an annual nationwide cleanliness survey conducted under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. The initiative evaluates cities and towns across India on cleanliness, hygiene, and sanitation practices.

This year’s ceremony saw the presentation of 78 awards across four main categories: Super Swachh League (SSL) Cities; Top 3 Clean Cities in five population categories; Special Categories, including Ganga Towns, Cantonment Boards, Safai Mitra Suraksha, and Mahakumbh; and State/UT Level Awards, including the 'Promising Clean City' award.


In the Super Swachh League 2025, Indore was awarded India’s cleanest city in the population category of more than 10 lakh, with the award presented by President Droupadi Murmu. This category recognises cities that have consistently ranked in the top 20% in cleanliness in their respective population brackets over the years.


Cleanest city awards by population categories included 3–10 lakh population: Chandigarh; 50,000–3 lakh: New Delhi NDMC; 20,000–50,000: Dungarpur; and Below 20,000: Bishrampur NP.


In the National Performance category, awards were given as follows: >10 lakh population: Ahmedabad; 3–10 lakh: Mira-Bhayandar; 50,000–3 lakh: Dewas; 20,000–50,000: Panaji; and <20,000: Bilha.


Cities were grouped into five population-based categories to ensure fairness and equal opportunity: Very Small Cities (<20,000); Small Cities (20,000–50,000); Medium Cities (50,000–3 lakh); Big Cities (3–10 lakh); and Million-Plus Cities (>10 lakh).
