DIMAPUR, AUGUST 6
JOINT Action Committee (JAC) for Dhobinala-Signal-Thahekhu-Rangapahar Road, in its meeting held on Wednesday, reiterated its decision to go ahead with its proposed total ban on plying/movement of heavy vehicles as first phase of agitation on Dhobinala-Signal Angami-Thahekhu-Rangapahar Road from 6 am to 6 pm on August 8. The meeting also resolved to enforce indefinite road blockade for heavy vehicles on the road in the second phase of its agitation.
In press release today, JAC secretary Neichuvoto Kiso and convenor K Kakheho Yeptho appealed to the district administration and the police to cooperate with the JAC for the ban, saying it is being initiated for the common interest of the public of 13 villages and colonies such as Rio Colony, Metha Colony, Signal Angami Village, Viola Colony, Sema Tilla, Xuvihe Colony, Kevijau Village, Lhomithi Village, Signal Colony, Naga Gaon, Y. Zhimo Colony, Thahekhu Village and Sangtam Tilla.
The committee said it is left with no option but to resort to agitation as the government and ‘responsible department’ have failed miserably to respond to the appeal of the public. It said it had sent a memorandum to PWD (R&B) minister on April 17 highlighting the depleted condition of the road and forwarded a copy of the memorandum to DC and SP Dimapur for information. In the memorandum, it was clearly mentioned that on account of failure of the government and concerned department, the committee would have no option but to impose restriction on heavy vehicles on the road.
Urging the public of the 13 villages and colonies to extend fullest cooperation towards the success of the first phase agitation, the committee has drawn up an action plan for volunteers of respective colonies and villages. Volunteers of Thaheku village, Lhomithi village, Xuvihe colony, Sematilla, Metha colony, Rio Colony and Y. Zhimo Colony have asked to be stationed at Dhobinala and Westyard junctions and volunteers of Signal Angami, Signal Colony, Naga Gaon and Viola Colony will be stationed at Signal Colony and Signal Angami junctions. IOC and Thahekhu gate area would be looked after by volunteers of Kevijau village while Army Water Pump area would be manned by volunteers of Sangtamtilla and Thahekhu village.
