[dropcap]J[/dropcap]oint Action Committee against the brutal killing of Lourembam Ongbi Ranjita Devi along with members of United Mothers Organisation and Poirei Leimarol today tried to storm the Chief Minister’s bungalow in Imphal and submit a memorandum.
A large number of women and locals from Yairipok area came in passenger vehicles to go to CM’s Bunglow from Moirangkhom area along the highway. However, police prevented them in front of the Old Secretariat Complex and allowed only selected members the committee to hand over the memorandum to the Chief Minister.
Ranjita Devi was found murdered and abandoned at Kakmayai Mamang paddy fields at around 8.20 pm of August 2. Thongram Sanatomba, elder brother of Ranjita, alleged that his sister was gang raped before she was hacked or stabbed to death by some criminals.
JAC urges the authority to find the culprits within August 6 and said failing to do so they will go for agitation in association with the civil societies of the state.The JAC also threatened that they will not take the dead body for last rites.

Troops of the 2 Assam Rifles based on specific intelligence regarding the movement of a UG cadre, launched an operation in general area Thoubal Bazar and apprehended one Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup UG cadre on July 30, according to a press release issued by PRO Assam Rifles. The apprehendee was identified as Nongthombam Roshanta Singh alias Tongba(34)son of N Padma Singh, resident of Huikap Makha Leikai in Imphal East district,it added. One 9mm Pistol, three live rounds of 9mm and a mobile phone were recovered from the apprehendee. The apprehendee, alongwith the recoveries, has been handed over to the Thoubal Police Station,it said.
Imphal east Police commandoes arrested one Manipur Naga Revolutionary Front Sgt Maj Ruichinghao Jajo alias Achung alias Ahao(40) son of Ramthing Jajo of Nongdam Tangkhul during a cordon and search ops at Singjamei Bheigyapati Leikai today,reports said. The day’s search and cordon operation was conducted from 4am to 6pm at Singjamei Bheigyapati leikai. The security forces detained 10 individuals including 2 bail outs for verification,source added.
