Kohima, Jan. 16 (EMN): To give an impetus to the music fraternity in Nagaland, Italian pianist Gloria Campaner is conducting a two-day ‘Piano Workshop and Masterclass sessions’ for the piano community at RCEMPA, Jotsoma, in Kohima.
The event is being organised by Task Force for Music and Arts (TaFMA) and Nagaland Piano Teachers’ Association (NPTA), wherein 40 participants have enrolled for the training.
Addressing the inaugural session on Monday, advisor for TaFMA, Theja Meru, acknowledged chief minister, Neiphiu Rio, for the encouragement and support towards the music and arts fraternity.
He said Gloria Campaner is a big name with vast experience and one who had traveled and performed around the world. Meru encouraged the participants to learn as much as possible, to make an impact on their lives and journey in music.
Meru extended gratitude to the Italian Embassy Cultural Centre, India, for facilitating the workshop and Sudipta Dawn, Founder Culture Monks, Kolkata, for the support.
The advisor also appreciated the NPTA for coming forward in organising the event and expressing willingness to continue more partnerships to let piano music grow in the state.
President of Nagaland Piano Teachers Association (NPTA), Khyochano TCK, in her speech, thanked TaFMA and the sponsors who made it possible for Gloria Campaner to be in the state.
She said Campaner will do a workshop on ‘C sharp (C#),’ a unique theoretical workshop module which, Khyochano said, will be helpful for the piano community.
She said piano music has been around for about 150 years in Nagaland and is connected with how the church developed and how missionaries introduced it in the state.
Khyochano also shared that Nagaland is also the home of Brillante! – the Nagaland Piano Festival, which is a one of a kind in the nation, to uplift and empower the piano community stating.
Pointing out that piano in Nagaland is still in its growing stage, she exuded hope that the workshop will be a springboard and catalyst for many other opportunities.
Meanwhile, Campaner expressed delight to be in Nagaland and be part of the event.
She added that the event will go deep on what music is, to express creativity and emotions that revolves around artistic life.
The programme was led by project director, TaFMA Dr Hovithal Sothu.
