Imphal, Jan. 25 (EMN): Manipur on Tuesday celebrated the 12th National Voters’ Day 2022 as part of the nationwide observation under the theme ‘Making Elections Inclusive, Accessible, and Participative’ in Imphal.
The chief secretary of Manipur, Dr. Rajesh Kumar, DGP Manipur P Doungel, Additional Chief Secretaries Letkhogin Haokip, Paulunthang Vaiphei and Vumlunmang Vualnam were present during the event, presided by the chief electoral officer, Rajesh Agrawal.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Secretary, Dr. Rajesh Kumar said that observation of the day is important in democracy. Expressing that it is the decision of the voters that will decide the kind of government for the next five years, he said that it is our responsibility to take careful decisions in exercising our votes and selecting the right candidate.
Informing that the Election Commission of India has carried out many reforms for proper conduct of election, he said as a responsible citizen it is our duty to inform the election machinery of any malpractices, inducement or violation of model code of conduct and appealed the electors to come out in large numbers and cast their valuable votes and to pledge for a free and fair election ensuing a Covid protocol.
In his speech, CEO Manipur Rajesh Agrawal said that concerted efforts have made the electoral process truly inclusive, accessible and participative. He expressed that the entire election machinery has been unified and geared up to ensure free, fair, peaceful and participative elections in the ensuing State Assembly Election, 2022.
Meanwhile, district election officers of Imphal West, Chandel and Churachandpur were given the Star DEO Award while electoral registration officers of Khurai, Patsoi, Bishenpur, Lilong, Wangjing Tentha and Churachandpur were awarded the Star ERO Award. BLOs of Churachandpur, Tamei, Thongju, Tamenglong, Karong and Thangmeiband were given the Star BLO award.
Winners of state-level ballot battle quiz competition -- Rajkumari Olivia Devi and Rajkumar Ishworchandra Singh of Loktak Christian Model High School, Moirang of Bishnupur district, Mashungam John Raikhan and Aiyush Katwal of Mt. Everest Higher Secondary School of Senapati district and Md. Arash Ahmed and Mohd. Hibjur Rahaman from E K Higher Secondary School of Imphal district -- were also felicitated during the function.
