Kohima, Dec. 15 (EMN): Spelling out that ‘ism’ is one of the ugliest social diseases destroying the Naga society, retired director of Higher Education, L Edward Lotha, has propagated following the teachings of the Bible in all sincerity to forge unity among the Nagas.
Speaking at the golden jubilee celebration of the Kohima Pangti Ekhüng (KPE) at Kruzo Park in Tsiese Basa under Kohima district on December 14, Lotha stated that ‘ism’ is one of the ugliest social diseases destroying the Naga society.
"We see divisions within divisions, splits within splits in the Naga society,” he said, adding that there are two kinds of unity- positive unity and negative unity.
“I see no harm in a group of people forming a social unit which aims and strives to do good for the well-being of all its members without harming or discriminating other people. This is an example of positive unity,” he said. An example of negative unity according to him was “one in which a group of people under whatever name, unite and resort to such actions aimed at benefiting its members only at the cost of other people or harming others in any way whatsoever.” He, therefore, advised to discourage and shun negative unity as it is destructive in nature.
Pointing out the mentality of the present Naga society, he said that the only way for forging unity among the Nagas is for all communities and social units to follow the teachings of the Bible in all sincerity as almost all the Nagas profess to be Christians.
“If we stay divided, we are doomed for the worst,” he said and encouraged the gathering to come together despite the differences in ideology.
Highlighting the 50 years journey of KPE, its chairman C Ngangshithung Shidio said, “It is a time when it is able to enjoy the fruits of hard work put in over the years.”
Rev. A Khyolamo Jami, senior associate pastor of PBLBC, released the jubilee souvenir and the vote of thanks was proposed by N Nyimtsemo Ngullie.
