PANAJI, JANUARY 19
An anonymous letter purportedly signed by ISIS has threatened to kill Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar.
Goa Police have circulated this letter to all the police stations in the state and handed over the case to the Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS).
The postcard threat letter was received at the State Secretariat last week following which Goa Police swung into action, a senior police official said today.
“All the agencies of state police are investigating this letter. We will soon be able to find the source of it,” the police official said.

Inspector General of Police V. Renganathan confirmed the contents of the letter, which he said was written in English, saying the postcard containing the threats to the two political leaders was posted locally.
“Since you are not allowing to eat beef, you will be taken care of,” the postcard said while referring to Modi and Parrikar. The letter was signed with the word IS.
The letter, received at the state secretariat here on Thursday, was later handed over to the Anti-Terror Squad and the North Goa district police.
Police sources said Parrikar’s security was reviewed in view of the threat letter.
“ISIS was written at the bottom of the postcard,” the official confirmed. The letter has expressed anger over ban on cow slaughter in the country.
With increased activities of ISIS supporters online, the government has taken the threat of the dreaded terror group seriously and asked states to remain alert against the possibility of ‘lone wolf attack’ in the country.
“ISIS threat is real. As per our input, the days leading to the Republic Day is crucial. We have instructed everyone to be alert against the possibility of ‘lone wolf attack’ anywhere in the country,” a senior government official said.
A ‘lone wolf’ terrorist is one who indulges in violence in support of some group, movement or ideology but works alone, outside of any command structure and without material assistance from any group.
