A talk is going around that Dr. S.C. Jamir, former CM of Nagaland and presently the Governor of Odisha, is being invited as RSS Nominee for the post of Vice President of India. Some may think that it is an honour for a Naga to become the VP of India. No doubt, we all know the immense capability of Dr. S. C. Jamir and he is capable even for a higher responsibility. Yes, there is not an iota of doubt about his capability. But the multi trillion question is “is it an honour for the Nagas, for him, to accept the nomination of the RSS”? Do not we boast of Nagaland, being a Christian state? It is taken for granted that all those who know Nagaland; know it as a Christian state. Many have written on the issue, such as Thepfulhouvi Solo, Jagdamba Mall and the most recent being Toshirenla Ao, former Miss Nagaland, on 9th May 2017, who has written words of praises for Dr. Shurhozelie Liezietsu and Dr. S.C. Jamir, with a hint of acceptance for the RSS invitation. Yes, Naga Christians, this is the hour!
Will the Naga Christians, ponder on the reasons by which Britain became the world’s most powerful nation and became ‘“Great” Britain’? I strongly believe that the reason was because King James I (king of England, Scotland and Ireland) convened the Hampton Court Conference, for translation of the Holy Bible, to English, from Hebrew and Greek. The Hampton Court Conference was held in 1604 AD, following which came the steady expansion and rise of the British Kingdom and subsequent conversion of the English language into a world language. Please look up the historical records and convince ourselves that Britain became “Great” following Hampton Court Conference of 1604 AD, for translation of the Bible. Why do we need to argue or deliberate on the greatness of the God on whom we believe or the greatness of the British Kingdom? Indeed it was that the sun never sat on the British empire and although its greatness is waning, it still has its legacy and will live throughout the history of mankind.
Why don’t we, for a moment, lend ear to what Norman Vincent Peale has to say “most of us would rather choose to be ruined by praise than be blessed by criticism/correction”? Are we to choose to be ruined by praise of becoming India’s VP, at the behest of RSS? Or should we choose to be blessed by this correction? Are we to act like “doubting Thomas” or stand for our faith? Of course God’s blessings will not come overnight; but for our posterity. In fact the reign of King James I was marked by conflicts and antagonism of puritans. But for his steadfast faith in his God; his posterior Kingdom had become the world’s most powerful nation.
Will the church also look up and comment, without the usual misconception in saying that the church is for spiritual works only? Yes, the church is for spiritual works; but the work is among the people of the world and the church needs to be involved with the world. For without involvement it is not possible to achieve the spiritual target. The target is to win people for God, as Jesus also said “I came not to call the righteous; but sinners to repentance”. So also why not join Joshua in saying “as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord” (Joshua 24:15)? Yes, Naga Christians, this is the hour!
So, in short, no matter how high a post, I personally do not endorse the nomination of RSS, for it is a DISHONOUR for us; Naga Christians.
