KOHIMA — An Iron Water Treatment Plant and a Children and Adolescents’ Library were inaugurated at Officers’ Hill Colony, Kohima, on Wednesday.

The inauguration event was held at Government Middle School (GMS) Officers’ Hill, Kohima.

The facilities were dedicated by Rev. Sentisashi Aier, senior pastor, Kohima Ao Baptist Arogo (KABA), and Kevinei-ü Sekhose, councillor of Ward No. 10, inaugurated the Iron Water Treatment Plant.

In her address, Sekhose said that the bore water at the colony contains a high level of iron, which is not suitable for use for any purpose. She added that, based on the request of the people to find a solution, she approached the colony leaders, and together they met the then additional chief secretary and finance commissioner, who is now the incumbent chief secretary, Sentiyanger Imchen.

She mentioned that he graciously allotted a financial grant, which enabled the successful construction of the water treatment plant.

Acknowledging the community leaders for spending their time and working hard to make the project a success, Sekhose expressed hope that the plant would greatly benefit the common people. She requested the school authorities to make good use of it and urged them to take good care of it.

Meanwhile, Khrielakuo Sekhose, chairman of the Officers’ Hill Colony Panchayat, inaugurated the Children and Adolescents’ Library and expressed delight over the new facilities. He said a library is not just a place with books but a treasure house of knowledge, a sanctuary for imagination, and a guide for life.

Sekhose stated, “For children, this will be a space of wonder—where stories take you to magical lands and spark your creativity. For the youth and adolescents, it will be a trusted companion, offering wisdom, courage, and guidance during these important years of growth.”

He further asserted that in a world full of distractions, reading remains one of the strongest habits to develop, adding that books help people think deeply, dream bigger, and understand others with empathy. The chairman also stated that books shape not only our stories but also our character and future.

He advised the students to make the library their second home and to read widely—beyond textbooks—to explore stories, science, history, and poetry, maintaining that each book they open would add to their strength and understanding.

Sekhose said that the library had been built with dedication and love and acknowledged the Department of Art and Culture for making it possible. He expressed hope that it would always be filled with curiosity, joy, and learning.
