Dimapur, May 13 : The protest of a local group, the ‘Concerned Citizens’ of Nagaland,’ to highlight the deplorable roads in the state and the coinciding demand for road development, is today, Saturday, May 14. The Concerned Citizens of Nagaland issued a note on Friday informing the public that the peaceful ‘campaign for good roads’ will commence from 9 am and culminate at 12 noon.
“All concerned citizens desiring good quality roads in Nagaland are requested to assemble near Town Hall, Supermarket, by 8:30 am,” the group said. “A representation seeking good roads will be read out…after which the participants supporting the cause can append their names and signatures. The representation will be submitted to the deputy commissioner, Dimapur, for onward submission to the state authorities.”
After the program, volunteers will proceed to the Holy Cross junction, Nagarjan junction, and Purana Bazaar to paste stickers on vehicles of willing citizens who share common concerns for the public cause, the organizers said. Volunteers will be out on the streets till 12 noon after which placards and banners will be put up at the Clock Tower, they informed.
“Slogan-stickers have also been distributed to concerned citizen-volunteers from the other districts in order to reach out to citizens across the state to the (best) extent possible. The CCN reiterates that the campaign is not politically-motivated in any manner nor are there any ulterior motives. The campaign has been initiated by likeminded concerned citizens purely to draw the attention of the government towards the plight and untold hardships of the daily commuters and the masses. As such, the CCN will not be held responsible if any untoward incident(s) are created by any person(s) with ulterior motive(s),” the statement said.
The organizers have appealed to the district administration and the police to provide adequate personnel particularly in said areas until the campaign wraps up.
“Lastly, the CCN humbly appeals to all concerned citizens to come forward and support the cause by appending their names and signatures to the representation seeking good roads in the state of Nagaland,” the Concerned Citizens of Nagaland added.
