Dimapur, Nov. 2 (EMN): The director of Information and Public Relations (IPR), Limawati Ao visited Pungro information centre under Kiphire district on Nov. 1 and interacted with the employees and took note of the problems and grievances faced by the staff while discharging duties.
After a patient hearing, the director assured the staff that the matters will be taken into consideration for further examination. Nonetheless, he urged the staff to be sincere and consider their job as the first priority.
“Serving in a government sector and earning a decent salary at this competitive age is not only fortunate but also an honour for which, we should be grateful to Almighty God”, said the IPR director.
He also expressed his appreciation to information assistant, Akiuba who retired on Oct. 31 after attaining the superannuation and described the retiree as a sincere and dedicated employee who had rendered his best services for the department in general and the people of Pungro in particular. The director urged Akiuba to continue in guiding and supporting the new incumbent in performing duties.
On the occasion, the director also provided necessary equipment and asked them to utilise for the welfare of the general public. He also added that Pungro has enough staff to perform duties as compared to that of other information centres. As such, the director requested the staff to be proactive in reporting news and events happening in their place.
Also while underscoring the importance of media, the IPR director said that people seriously about issues only as and when it is publicised in the newspapers. Therefore, he reminded them to keep reporting in the form of news rather than disseminating through other medium such as whatsapp or facebook.
Also saying that the impact of media in sensitising and creating awareness to the general public cannot be undermined, Limawati Ao said that ‘development does not mean only about donating money or bringing infrastructure development but also includes providing the right information to the people at the right time’.
Meanwhile, the retiring information assistant, Akiuba, while delivering his farewell speech, thanked the God for giving him good health and reached the retirement age.
While acknowledging the IPR director and his sub-ordinate officers for being responsive and supportive throughout his service career, Akiuba request the director to depute an educated and experienced personnel in his place since Pungro is an important sub-division under Kiphire district.
The chairman, Pungro village council, Y. Chipong and his colleagues also interacted with the director during his visit and expressed their gratitude to the official for visiting Pungro sub-division. The director asked them to cooperate with the department of IPR personnel since no other reporters are posted in the sub-division to report the news and events occurring in their area. The Director was accompanied by DPRO Kiphire, K. Zeliang, APRO Nongozo Rikha and staff of DPRO Kiphire.
