Dimapur, Sept. 1: Along with the rest of the country, India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) was launched across several districts in Nagaland on September 1. With the launching, nine branches and 36 access points in Nagaland went live along with the rest of the country. Specials guests at the events released special covers on financial inclusion and also distributed quick response (QR) cards to the account holders.
IPPB has been set up under the department of post under the ministry of communication with 100% equity owned by Government of India. IPBB aims to initially open 1.55 lakh branches by providing banking and financial services to people in rural areas.
IPPB services would be available at 650 branches and 3,250 access points as on September 1. Of these, 1.30 lakh access points will be located in rural areas, taking it to vast untapped market.
Kohima: In Kohima, IPPB was launched by the state chief secretary, R Binchilo Thong, at Hotel Japfu, Kohima.
The chief secretary, in his address, stated that the ultimate aim of the IPPB was financial inclusion and to make India go cashless which is convenient and accessible to the public by eliminating leakages for the growth of GDP.
“IPPB is to spearhead financial inclusion agenda by removing the barriers for the unbanked and under banked population especially in the rural areas,” Thong stated. He hoped that the bank would prove to be helpful to the unbanked blocks in Nagaland.
Superintendent of Post division, Kohima, Lalramzauva, also spoke on the occasion.

Dimapur: In Dimapur, deputy commissioner, Sushil Kumar Patel, launched the IPPB branch office. The launching programme was held at Hotel Lake Shilloi.
While mentioning about the importance of IPBB, Patel stated that its coverage is more than other banks and even more
convenient. He added that employees from post office can even deliver money at one’s doorstep. Stressing on the
importance of banks for savings, he mentioned that Government of India is emphasising on opening bank accounts.
Besides releasing the special cover, the DC also handed QR cards to the three IPPB account holders from Dimapur. Swarup Dutta was the first person to open the account from Dimapur office.

, Dutta said the procedures were simple and could be registered without any hassles. Dutta disclosed that he had a savings account from Sanchay Post which was opened in 2005 and the account has been linked with IPPB on August 17. He admitted that he would be able to start transactions by September 2.

In Mokokchung, IPPB was launched by the deputy commissioner, Sachin Jaiswal, at town hall. Jaiswal lamented that many people living in remote areas of the district do not have easy access to banks which have become mandatory for all to have a personal bank account to avail the welfare schemes and programmes initiated by the government.
He expressed confidence that with the installation of IPPB branch in the district, people living in far-flung areas would have easy access to their bank account right at their doorsteps.
Jaiswal also said the district administration was ready to provide assistance to Post office to disseminate information about IPPB and set up access points in all the villages in Mokokchung.
Inspector of Post Mokokchung Branch, Parna Mahato, informed that concurrently eight branches and 36 access points were launched in the state.
“IPPB will offer a range of products such as savings and current accounts, money transfer, direct benefit transfers, bill and utility payments, and enterprise and merchant payments,” postal assistant Narola Jamir said.
To open a bank account, they just need to approach the respective postmen of their colonies and ward with their Aadhar card, she said adding that IPPB provides zero balance facility and its account could be used for any governmental schemes and programmes.
Additional deputy commissioner, Wokha, Mhathung Tsanglao, launched the IPPB at Lotha Tribal Council hall in Wokha on Saturday.
Speaking on the occasion, Tsanglao has stressed on the importance of having a bank account by every individual.
Tsanglao has appreciated the idea of IPPM as it largely targeted the rural areas and semi-urban areas, who were deprived of banking facilities.
R Phinyo, assistant superintendent of Post Office in Kohima, had briefed about the importance and vision of IPPB. He encouraged the people to open zero account through IPPM.
He mentioned that it can be directly linked with government benefits and schemes. He added that students’ scholarships could also be directly credited to their account.
