What happens to our thoughts when; At an early hour of around 2:30 or 3:30 or 3 AM, a tired and helpless farmer and his family are awakened from their good sleep? Our husbands and sons are pulled out of their rooms with no fault of theirs’ who in fact have to go for their daily chore in the field; Our sisters and mothers are watched with an eye of evil intentions; Our kids crying out of fear and creating an atmosphere of fear psychosis; Our old parents and in-laws are shown no mercy, rather showered with words beyond human digestion; “Friends of the Hill People” is what the so called Assam Rifles in our land are fond of writing and putting up placards in every place they exist, but the above facts are proof that there is a wrong notion against their tag. Today, national workers are living peacefully in co-existence with their families and friends following our stand on ceasefire ground rules, but the acts and movements of the AR, raiding houses of any public with no rights whatsoever in the early hours is creating resentment against them. Such activities in our land need to be outrightly condemned. M Royemchu Chang Dy. Secretary, NSCN/GPRN
