Dzieselatuo retains his title for 3rd consecutive year
Kisama, Dec. 4 (EMN): Angami wrestler Dzieselatuo Keretsü of Kohima village retained his title for the third consecutive year at the International Hornbill Naga Wrestling championship at the amphitheatre, Kisama Heritage village on December 4.
On his way to lift the title, Keretsü defeated fellow Angami wrestler Kezhavizo Thevo of Chedema village in straight bouts in the final, while he overcame Seketoukho Nipu of Sechüma village in semifinal and Keduovilie Zumu of Tuophema in quarters.
The runner-up Thevo downed Hraiba Dow Poumai of Saranamai village under Senapati district in the semifinal, while he beat Chakhesang wrestler Besuveto Cumu in quarters.
The champion fetched a cash award of INR. One lakh, while the runner-up received INR. 50,000. The two losing semifinalists Seketoukho and Hraiba were given INR. 20,000 each, while the four losing quarterfinalists Ipeuzeu Zeliang, Sheko Veni, Keduovilie and Besuveto received INR. 5,000 each.
44 wrestlers from Angami Sports Association, Chakhesang Wrestling Association and Zeliang Wrestling Association took part in the tournament which was organised by the Nagaland Wrestling Association in collaboration with the Tourism department, Government of Nagaland.
Earlier, the inaugural programme was graced by Dr. Neikiesalie Kire, Minister for PWD (Roads & Bridges) as the chief guest.
In his address, Kire encouraged the wrestlers to maintain and improve their physical fitness, while he also urged them to deliver their best to adapt well into the sports they have decided to make it as a career.
The NWA presidential address was delivered by Neivikuolie Khatsü, while Chisazo Dawhuo, technical secretary, NWA, administered oath to the players.
The programme, chaired by ASA president Viliehu Nguzhü, commenced with invocation pronounced by Thujoneyi Veswu, associate pastor, Chakhesang Baptist Church, Minister’s Hill, Kohima.
Shikho Veni is champion in tourist category
Sheko Veni Poumai of Manipur clinched the title in the tourist category wrestling championship at the amphitheatre, Kisama Heritage village on December 4.
Sheko Veni, who hails from Tungjoy village under Senapati district of Manipur, defeated fellow Poumai wrestler Hraiba Dow from Saranamai village in the final to lift the title. Both the champion and runner-up in tourist category received a cash award of Rs. 15,000 and Rs. 10,000 respectively.
In his journey to lift the title, the champion defeated Hraiba John Poumai of Manipur in the round of last four, while he also managed to pull down another Poumai wrestler Dairü Sukosha in quarters. Meanwhile, the other finalist Hraiba Dow beat Chandan Daimary of Assam in the semifinal.
The wrestlers who could make it till the quarters in the tourist category were Shivanand Poojary (Mumbai), Achla Ram Jat (Rajasthan), Lao Moses (Manipur) and Dairü Sukosha (Manipur).
The other tourist wrestlers who took part in the championship includes Hadunü Kilu Samuel (Manipur), Pusllar, Anjan Gogoi, Gauran Jain, Varun Rawat, Deepak Verma, Gaurav Singh and Prashant Sing (All from New Delhi).
