IMPHAL, June 21: Manipur joined the observation of the second edition of the International Yoga Day by widely performing Yoga asana, meditation, discussion and dissemination of the benefits of practising Yoga for physical and mental health on Tuesday.
Starting from the wee hours of the day, the performance of Yoga was held at various places across the State particularly in Imphal area. The State Directorate of Ayush along with Manipur State Yoga Association observed the Day at the hall of Konthoknganbi complex at Thangmeiband in Imphal with participation of State Health Minister DK Karongthang and senior officials of health department. During the day’s observance, Yoga asanas were demonstrated by experts. Minister Korungthang who flagged off a ‘Run for Yoga’, while speaking on the occasion, called upon the people to practice yoga for improving physical, mental, moral and spiritual well being. The Patanjali Yoga Samiti Manipur unit also observed the day at Khuman Lampak main stadium with the state Chief Secretary O Nabakishore and its members while the Inspector General of Assam Rifles (South) Maj Gen VS Sreenivas, DIGs of CRPF and BSF besides high ranking officers and jawans participated in another Yoga practice session at Khuman Lampak indoor stadium here.
At the same time, DGP Manipur Police LM Khaute, Manipur University Vice Chancellor Prof H Nandakumar and Vice Chairman of Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan Delhi Dilip Saikia led teachers, Students, local volunteers besides Indian Red Cross Society Manipur Branch, Bharat Scouts and Guides also attended a mass Yoga demonstration at university ground at Canchipur near Imphal in the morning. BJP Manipur Pradesh also observed the day at its headoffice here with State President K Bhabananda Singh and former presidents Th Chaoba Singh, M Bhorot Singh and other prominent leaders and workers. There are also reports of observing Yoga day at various places including JN Manipur Dance academy, Manipur Dramatic Union hall, historic Kangla fort, Model Club Chingamakha,BJP Imphal East district units etc.
