Dimapur, June 14 (EMN): International Domestic Workers’ Week is being observed by the Assisi Centre for Integrated Development (ACID) with the Support of National Domestic Workers Movement and NDWM-Child Right Movement, Nagaland.
The organisers issued a press release on Wednesday informing about the event.
The event was to spread awareness on the rising cases of child abuse and to prevent them and also to campaign for domestic workers right and inclusion of domestic workers in schedule employment, the updates stated.
As part of the event a street play was performed at the Super Market, depicting the Rights of the Domestic Workers and their campaign for fixation of minimum wages; implementation of social security schemes, inclusion in the Schedule Employment which was exhibited through poster campaign and distribution of the pamphlets, the updates stated.
At the Railway Station another street play was performed by the members of NDWM-Child Right Movement.
‘The main aim of the play is to raise awareness about child rights, child related issues and the current scenario of children where their childhood rights, growth and development are deprived,’ the press release stated.
It was informed that the children held holding placards: ”Do a favor, avoid child labour,” “children should have pens in their hands not tools,” “say no to child labor,” and so on. The slogans were displayed on to onlookers, the organisers informed.
After the play, SunitaThabah called upon the people to fight child abuse and made them aware of the four rights of the children: Right to Survival, Right to Participation, Right to Development, and Right to protection.
‘Through these programmes, both domestic workers and CRM were given a platform to express their solidarity with each other and be the part of ILO in eradicating child labour by 2025 which was witnessed by public,’ the updates stated.
