IMPHAL — The 12th International Day of Yoga was celebrated across Manipur on Sunday, joining the global observance of the annual event.
The state-level programme was held at the Khuman Lampak Indoor Stadium in Imphal, where Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, accompanied by Chief Minister Y Khemchand Singh, Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam, the chief secretary, MLAs and senior officials, participated in the celebrations.
Leading the yoga session, Bhalla encouraged people to make yoga a part of their daily lives, highlighting its importance for physical and mental well-being.
He also witnessed the live telecast of the national event held in Kolkata, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation on the occasion.
More than 1,000 participants, including students, government employees, yoga enthusiasts, security personnel and members of the public, took part in the programme.

This year's International Day of Yoga was observed on the theme, "Yoga for healthy ageing," emphasising the lifelong benefits of yoga in promoting physical vitality, mental clarity and emotional well-being.
The governor and his wife also led a yoga session for officers and staff at Lok Bhavan, Imphal, in a disciplined and serene atmosphere.
Meanwhile, the BRIC-Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), Imphal, marked the occasion with a guided yoga session involving scientists, officers, staff, research scholars and students. The programme included demonstrations of yoga asanas, pranayama and meditation.
Similar International Day of Yoga programmes were also organised at various locations across the state, witnessing enthusiastic participation from people of all age groups.
