International Day of Girl Child observed in Peren

Dimapur, Oct. 12 (EMN): Peren district administration, Sakhi-One Stop Centre in convergence with Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) and Mahila Shakti Kendra initiated a scholarship programme in commemoration of the International Day of Girl Child on October 11. The theme for this year was "My Voice, Our Equal Future" in order to emphasise on "adolescent girls to keep pace with the reality they face today”.

"It is a day dedicated to amplify the voice of the girl child stand up for their rights," a DIPR update stated.

The scholarship was initiated with the objective to celebrate the achievement and also call to action the acceleration of gender parity, encourage, recognise and support meritorious girl students belonging to weaker sections. Ziedibi of Class 10 and Leihaucule of Class 12, both from Government Higher Secondary School, Peren, received the scholarship of INR 5000 each based on their outstanding performances.

Meanwhile, as part of a skill development programme, knitting sets and plastic rope for making baskets were also distributed to the girl children and adolescents of Servanthood Ministry Children Home in Peren town.
