Imphal, June 26 (EMN): The International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2017 was observed at various places in Manipur on Monday.
A state level observation was held under the aegis of State Social Welfare department, Federation of Indian NGO’s for Drug Abuse Prevention and Coalition Against Drugs & Alcohol. Health & Family Welfare, Law & Legislative Affairs, Art & Culture Minister L Jayantakumar Singh, Social Welfare and Cooperation Minister Nemcha Kipgen and Education, Labour & Employment Minister Th Radheshyam Singh attended the occasion as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
In Churachandpur town, marathon race was held as part of observation which was participated by about 500 participants.

Along with the rest of the world, International Day against Drug Abuse & illicit trafficking was organised by Opiod Substitution Therapy (OST) Centre, Diphu Civil Hospital in collaboration with Jiroi TI (IDU) Project Camp, Diphu on Monday.
The programme started with rally in Diphu Town which was followed by meeting at Jiroi TI (IDU) Project Office, Diphu. During the meeting, OST centre, Diphu Civil Hospital, Dr. A.K Kakoti explained how drug addiction get started, its causes and consequences. He added that the illicit trafficking was a source of raising drug user across the country.
Dr. Kausik Doloi (General Physician) said that drug abuse was the main cause of social problems in society. A person who is addicted to drugs has an unhealthy environment which needs to be treated at early stage. Co-convenor, ABVP-KADC Waisong Tokbi stated the role of youths in nation building and effect of drugs upon them.
