Dimapur, August 29: The Yonex Sunrise 40th Nagaland Inter District & State Open Badminton Championship concluded on August 27 at Jalukie (MIS) with Parliamentary Secretary for YRS, MTF & Lotteries, Khriehu Liezietsu as the chief guest during the closing function.
In his address, Khriehu congratulated the badminton fraternity for bringing laurels to the country through P.V Sindhu winning silver medal in the recent Rio Olympic. He said that sports have played a major role in our society and it prepares a person to become a social and liberal thinking individual who understands the importance of hard work, discipline, the nature of team work and thereby applies the sporting spirit in all aspects of life. It also brings a holistic development of individual inculcating values like optimism, belief in oneself and to face all challenges in life, he stated. As in-charge of sports, Khriehu admitted that the Department might have failed in some ways to fulfill the needs but the department are trying its best and have also taken a decision to develop few sports in the State where badminton is one of the priorities. He expressed hope that with the help from the government a badminton academy is envisaged in the state. He said champions are made when potentiality is converted into performance and challenged the youths to convert their potentialities, look up, get up, and never give up.
In the tournament, for junior's team Mokokchung emerged the champion while the runner-up was bagged by Wokha while in the seniors team, Nagaland Police was adjudged as the champion and runner up bagged by Kohima.
