Kohima’s sixth Inter-Departmental Badminton Tournament brings government employees together for competition, fitness, teamwork and camaraderie over two days.
KOHIMA — The sixth Inter-Departmental Badminton Tournament for Kohima District got underway at the Multi-Purpose Hall, NLA Stadium, on Friday, bringing together government employees for two days of competition and camaraderie.
The tournament is being organised by the Inter-Departmental Badminton Club (IDBC) in collaboration with the Kohima district administration.
Addressing the inaugural programme, Roko Angami, OSD, department of Youth Resources and Sports, and Director of Sports, Super Masters Games and Sports Federation of India, said sporting events among government employees help build relationships and improve cooperation beyond the playing arena.
He said badminton requires discipline, physical fitness, concentration, quick decision-making and determination — qualities that are equally valuable in professional and personal life.
Angami also highlighted the Masters Games movement, which provides opportunities for people to continue competitive sport after their professional sporting careers.
IDBC president Sabou Yashü said the tournament was started six years ago to bring government employees together through badminton. He said the initiative had continued to grow and promoted fitness and healthy living in addition to competition.
