Tetso College jointly organised the Pow-woW 2015 along with the Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development to promote skill building and team work on March 13 and 14 at Tetso College, Dimapur.
The name of the festival was derived from the North American Native Indian indigenous word “powwow”, which means a celebration involving feasting and dancing. In modern terminology, it also refers to a meeting or conference. The inter-college fest had 21 colleges participating in various events ranging from the sports, elocution, skill building seminars and interactive panel discussions. Salesian College,Dimapur secured the overall College Champion trophy followed by Unity College Dimapur at second and Tetso College securing third place. Nagaland Post sponsored the extempore, debate and basketball prizes while K& S Packaging, Axis Bank and Youthnet sponsored the volleyball prizes.
The festival also featured the announcement of the winner of the Youthnet First Cut Intercollegiate Entrepreneurship competition which included performances by Alobo Naga and also the declaration of the First Cut winner by Geoffrey Yaden, Editor-in-Chief Nagaland Post presenting the award which was bagged by St Joseph’s College, Jakhama.
The event was inaugurated by , Prof. A LanunungsangAo, Pro-Vice Chancellor of Nagaland University who congratulated the college authority for successfully organising a fest of this stature thereby giving a platform for many young minds to converge, discuss and share knowledge. He also conveyed the blessings of Prof. Bolin Kumar Konwar, Vice-Chancellor of Nagaland University. RozelleMero, Managing Director of Peoples Channel, enlightened the participants at the fest on the importance of soft skills enhancing, after which the competitive events, pencil sketch, quiz and sports knockout rounds began.
The second day of Pow Wow 2015 saw a very lively panel discussion where panelists discussed on the opportunities and challenges in Nagaland. The panel consisted of Samuel Changkija, IFS, AkuonuoKhezhie, Director- Northeast India Academy of Performing Arts, TomstaVinito, Programme Manager of Youthnet, and AochubaYaden from Nagaland Post. The session was moderated by ShonreichonSareo, Senior Analyst, Deloitte. The panel discussion examined the issues that concern the growth and development of private sector industries and local businesses, and said that the need for the hour was emphatic politicians, informed citizens, and enthusiastic students. The panel also scrutinized the effectiveness of education curriculum in finding jobs. Other highlights included a debate competition where participants argued whether Nagaland was an ideal place for economic investment and entrepreneurship; extempore speech and on the spot events like musical chairs(faculty only), treasure hunt and the finals of the basketball and volleyball matches.
