
DIMAPUR — As part of the Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) activities, Mokokchung district administration conducted an inter-college debate competition at Mokokchung town hall on April 10.
Speaking at the programme, the additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of Mokokchung, Chumlamo Humtsoe, stated that that the competition was aimed at educating young voters on ethical electoral practices and instill awareness at an early stage, stated a DIPR report.
Also speaking at the event, the assistant commissioner of Mokokchung, Ajit Kumar, urged everyone to exercise their right to vote by emphasising how votes drive political and social changes. He highlighted the responsibility of government officials to ensure fair and peaceful elections and emphasised the duty of every citizen to vote.
It stated that students from People’s College, Fazl Ali College, Mokokchung College of Teacher’s Education, Shisalen Riju, and Jubilee Memorial College took part in the debate.
Report stated that Asensor from Fazl Ali College was awarded as the best speaker.
The winning team comprised of Sungdienla L Ozukum and Nungsanglila Jamir from Shisalen Riju, while the runner-up team included Yimyatetla Sanglir and Medemren Longchar from Jubilee Memorial College.
The district SVEEP icons namely Supongsangla and Arenlong encouraged everyone to vote stressing the importance of each vote. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the EAC of Mokokchung, Alemyim Isaac Solo.
