No one can deny the validity and importance of a modicum of intelligence and talent for success in life. But then, character goes a long way. An intelligent but lazy, weak, cowardly and unresourceful person will only see the pit in life. The reverse is true for a hard working person who employs qualities of character. For even the heavens and the stars would smile, I believe, kindly, on a person of character. But, then again a gifted person with a well developed character is destined for greatness of the highest order. Such a person will be a leader among men, if not the leader. The vagaries of life are unkind more often than not for most of humanity, except for the charmed few. A brief study of history, even recent history will show how certain people, by sheer dint of character have achieved greatness, fame; let it be even infamy! Hitler, Idi Amin, Saddam et al cannot certainly be credited with a superior intelligence. However, they had courage and leadership ability. The very same can be said about many of our Naga political leaders. Indeed some few are endowed with high intelligence. Not that I condone any of the aforesaid. The youth of today are confused for they have been waylaid by false prophets of every shade and hue. They are sincere and well meaning, apart from the rogue few. There are good gentlemen and ladies whom we have as our elders. So, there is hope. There is ample intelligence, let us harness our Naga character. We have been blessed, our land is blessed; let us be a blessing. Men! We have worthy women let be worthy! Amen. Edward lotha edward.5fhl@gmail.com
