Institutions observe World Environment Day

  KLC: To mark the occasion of World Environment Day, on June 5, Kohima Law College (KLC) conducts special session of presentation on the subject and plantation drive at college premises. Presenting a key note address during the special session, Kezhokhoto Savi, professor-in-charge of BCI Practical & Training, said time has come to develop a sense of urgent need to protect the environment and sense of hope for future. “Plenty of damage has been done to the earth, and more is inflicted every day” he said. He said in observance of World Environment Day we celebrate the life, as air that we breathe, water that we drink, food that we eat, and house where we find shelter all come from the environment. Therefore, it is important to protect and conserve the natural resources because all these at risk today. He also encouraged the students to take a step towards protecting, spreading awareness and cleaning the environment. “Everyone should have a moral duty to protect environment, for without environment, life itself is not possible” he quoted. Five students from LL.B final year gave paper presentation. Pledges and slogans were suggested by the students to spread better awareness in the society. The observance followed with plantation drive. Immanuel College: The Eco Club of Emmanuel College in collaboration with NSS observed World Environment Day, with Imliwabang, NCS, EAC and Yitachu, NCS, EAC as resource persons. The former encouraged on career building and the latter on the effects of poor environmental care in the state. NTTC: Nagaland Tool Room & Training Centre (NTTC), Dimapur undertakes plantation drive in commemoration of World Environment Day, on June 5. GHS Chumukedima:In commemoration of World Environment Day, The Wildlife Division, Dimapur organised an awareness programme on human-animal conflict mitigation at Government Higher Secondary School, Chumukedima. The programme is part of Wildlife Divisions continuous campaign. The officials of the Wildlife Wing explained to the participants about the threat to wildlife, its importance and their role in maintaining ecological balance and how to safeguard it from extinction. Teachers and students were also urged to contribute, involve and take action towards protection, preservation and conservation of wildlife so as to ensure its sustenance and continuity for the generations to come. The participants were also asked to focus on small action like switching off the lights, fans and electronic gadgets when not in use and proper disposal of garbage’s etc for cleaner and safer environment. The principal of the school thanked the department for taking the initiative and conducting the awareness programme in the school and asked the student to practice in life. In olden times, he said people lived for hundreds of years because of cleaner air and fresher environment but regretted that at present, our life span has been reduced to 60-70 years because of pollution and environmental hazards. As part of the awareness programme, plantation was carried out within the school jurisdiction by the students where more than 100 saplings were planted. SASRD: The Eco Club of NU, SASRD (EC: SASRD) in commemoration of World Environment Day, conducted an essay competition on the theme ‘Globalization and its impact on the environment’ and painting competition on topic ‘Connecting with nature’ on May 31. Winners of the contest were Ajungla Longchar (1st Prize), Apibeni Y. Kikon (2nd Prize) and Imnichetla Jamir (3rd Prize) while the prizes for the painting competition went to Khriezedinuo Pienyü (1st Prize) and Chanenle Apon (2nd Prize). The club also planting 34 trees in the campus provided by the Campus Beautification & Landscaping Committee and the Department of Horticulture, NU: SASRD. Unity College: Unity College, Dimapur observe World Environment Day on theme ‘Connecting People to Nature’. On the occasion, students were encouraged to appreciate the beauty of Mother Nature and to take steps in protecting it. Plantation drive was carried out within the college premises. GHSS Pfütsero: Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS)Pfustero observed World Environment Day on May 5, by participatin in a cleanliness drive at Pfutsero town, with KALOS society and 9 Assam Rifles. Around 690 students participated along with teachers of the school. GHSS Pfutsero principal, Vechikhoyi Lohe while exhorting the students on the theme “Connecting nature to people”, reminded the students to take responsibility as good stewards and take good care of the environment. He also reminded students to be responsible in disposing waste so that the place where they live will be neat and clean for healthy leaving. Balijan School: Balijan Hindi English School observed World Environment Day, wherein head assistant teacher asked the students to care the mother earth and maintain good relationship with the nature. After the programme, students carried plantation drive. St. Xavier Jalukie: St. Xavier Higher Secondary School, Jalukie, observed World Environment Day by organising a plantation and cleanliness drive. BMS: Baptist Mission School Jotsoma observed World Environment Day by planting tree sapling, distributing tree seedlings and cleaning the school premises under the leadership of Eco-club and Science club. Headmaster of the school exhorted the students to be grateful to nature as Mother Earth provides us everything we need. To mark the day, the school distributed 2017 custard apple seeds to the students and teachers. MGM: MGM School Pre primary wing observe World Environment Day dressing up in green attires and looked eco friendly. To give awareness about environment, Nursery and KG students were taught the identification and recognition of green fruits, vegetables, leaves and trees, decorated classrooms with nature theme, children brought green snacks and fruits in tiffin, colouring competition on theme”Connecting people to nature”, rhymes on green theme were narrated and enacted by teachers and fruit salads were made for the children. Bethel School Porba: Krishi vigyan Kendra, Phek in collaboration with Bethel School, Porba celebrated World Environment Day. Competitions such as singing, drawing and essay writing were conducted to mark the occasion. Dr. Hannah Krujia, KVK Phek highlighted the importance of the natural resources and consequences of over exploitation in day to day life. Dr. Rinku Bharali briefed the students on importance of tree plantation and its effect on environment. Kuve Puro, assistant head teacher highlighted the causes of environmental degradation and the remedies to overcome it. Around 200 sapling of various tree species were planted by the students in the village. RJHSS: Ram Janaki Higher Secondary School observed World Environment Day, by organising various indoor activities to create awareness of environment and impact of global warming. Essay competition on “Impact of Human activities on environment” and “Global warming and its effects”, painting and poster design competition was conducted for higher secondary, secondary students and junior secondary students respectively. Various saplings and flower plants brought by students were displayed and planted in and around the school campus. BBS: Eco club of Bethel Baptist School observed world environment day on theme “Connecting people to nature, with Toshi Yimchunger, SDO (PHED) as resource person. To mark the occasion, mass social work was conducted at Old Showuba village junction area.
