Dimapur, August 9 (EMN): To commemorate 75th year of ‘Quit India Movement’ and also the 70th year of ‘India’s Independence,’ Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) and the University Grant Commission (UGC) have urged all the higher educational institutions to undertake activities between August 9 to 30.
The programme is being organised to commemorate the events and sacrifices of the revered freedom fighters and also to sensitise the students of the freedom struggle and Quit India Movement which led to securing of India’s independence.
It has directed to undertake activities like invited talks by eminent educationists on freedom struggle. This will be called ‘New India Manthan.’
It stated that the Prime Minister’s endeavour to have a terrorism-free, caste-free, corruption-free, uncleanness-free and poverty-free society would only actualise with the help of the society. Accordingly, institutions have been requested to organise students, faculty and non-teaching staff pledge taking ceremony on August 9 at 9.30 a.m. The pledge format will be uploaded on the official website of UGC.
It has also directed the faculty to conduct guided tour for the students to the memorials, places/houses of any martyr or freedom fighters from military, para-military and police, who helped to preserve the integrity of the country in the vicinity of the institution to acquaint the students about the contributions of the freedom fighters.
It has asked to conduct quiz competition allowing maximum students participation to sensitise them of the contributions of our freedom fighters and the events that unfolded during the freedom struggle. Details of the competition will be made available on the UGC website and also at www.mygov.in. Students may give answers in both online and offline mode.
The notification further directed institutions to publicise the activities undertaken for awareness of the general public. The activities undertaken during the month should be shared in the forms of photographs and reports on the dedicated facebook page of MHRD.
