  • DIMAPUR — With the monsoon season approaching, rockfalls and landslides have become a common hazard along the Dimapur to Kohima NH-29 stretch. In an effort to mitigate these seasonal risks, the installation of rock and slope barriers is currently underway along highway.

  • The project, being executed by Maccaferri Infrastructure Private Limited, aims to stabilise vulnerable slopes and prevent debris from obstructing traffic and endangering lives.

  • An operator managing the compressor pressure machine at the site informed Eastern Mirror that the work has been progressing in phases under three designated packages.

  • In the stretch that falls under Package I (123.840 km to 138.775 km), installation of 100 metres of barriers have been completed, with another 100 metres currently in progress. This section is expected to be completed within the next one and a half months.

  • For stretches under Package II (138.775 km to 152.490 km), 100 metres of barrier installation has been completed, and the next 100 metres are scheduled to be finished within the next 10 days.

  • Meanwhile, in Package III (152.490 km to 166.700 km), slope protection measures are being implemented at seven to eight identified locations. This phase, too, is expected to be completed within a month and a half.

  • The operator also informed that the heavy rainfall on April 28 triggered minor rockfalls along NH-29, where a few small boulders dislodged from a slope, but there were no reports of damage.
