INR 1200 cr. for NE tourism in last 5 years

Our Correspondent Imphal, Nov. 24 (EMN): Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Tourism Prahlad Singh Patel said the Centre has sanctioned INR 1200 crore for development of tourism infrastructure in the Northeast, under Swadesh Darshan Scheme, in the past five years. He was speaking at the inaugural event of the 8th International Tourism Mart for North East Region in Imphal in Manipur on November 23 evening. Patel said that peaceful environment is necessary for the growth of tourism and overall development of the region. He added that people should focus on maintaining conducive atmosphere because the NE region is gifted with “bountiful scenic beauty and rich culture”, which are the prime components of a flourishing tourism sector.
