DIMAPUR — Input distribution programme under ‘Sustainable livelihood- integration of pulses and livestock,’ organised by AICRP on Kharif pulses under NEH programme, was held at library conference hall of School of Agricultural Sciences (SAS): NU, Medziphema campus on Tuesday.
An update from the school stated that the programme was chaired by Prof. Malini Sharma, centre in-charge and head of Genetics and Plant Breeding department at SAS: Nu, Medziphema campus.
Prof. L Daiho, Dean of SAS: NU Medziphema campus, who was the special guest, explained about the programme and encouraged the farmers about the cultivation of pigeon pea crop, rearing livestock and improving the livelihood of the farmers.
A short presentation was delivered by Dr. Lowrence Kithan, Scientist (Agronomy), on pigeon pea farming.
Feedback on behalf of the farmer was delivered by Catherine from Ghotovi village, which was followed by release of booklet on “Cultivation practices of some important pulses.”
In his remarks, the chairperson emphasised on the cultivation of mung crop, field peas and other pulses along with rearing of chicks for the uplift of their livelihood.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Chubatemsu Ozukum, STA.
A total of 50 farmers associated with pulses farming from districts of Niuland and Chümoukedima were given inputs such as chicks, seeds of green gram and field peas.
