Dimapur, Sep. 25 (EMN): A one day sensitisation program on Standards, Technical Regulation, Conformity Assessment and Accreditation was held at Directorate of Industries and Commerce Kohima on Sep. 25. The program was organized by the Directorate of Industries and Commerce in collaboration with National Accreditation Board for Certification Bodies (NBCB) and Quality Council of India (QCI).
A DIPR news update stated that the CEO of NABCB Anil Jauhri said that it is estimated worldwide that 60 to 70% of various trades are due to standards. He said that standards have become the most important thing and it is very necessary now for everyone to know about standards.
He said that it is very important for all sections of society -- government, industry or service industry -- need to be aware of how standards will impact in terms of their survival.
Admitting that not everybody can be an expert but can have a broad view on how it impacts us, Jauhri said that standards keep changing and it is a battle for all to understand the importance of standards.
Expressing happiness at the government’s realisation on the importance of standardisation which “has become an issue that is causing a problem’, Jauhri said that the purpose of the training is to create awareness on the basics which would help all the participants to have a broad understanding of the issues which is actually happening in the domestic and international market.
Commissioner and Secretary of Industries and Commerce, Lithrongla G. Chishi IAS, underscored the importance of standardisation and certification in the modern competitive world.
She said that though the topic might be very new for the people of Nagaland, but asserted that it is very important if the Naga people have to compete in the international market.
She therefore, particularly encouraged the agri. and allied department, handloom, bio-resource and bamboo to make the best use of the training ‘as they will be the forerunner in creating awareness and imparting training to other departments in the future’.
Apart from the NABCB CEO, Anil Jauhri, the other resource persons were Professor Murali Kallummal Department of Commerce and S. Krishnamurthy, Lead Assessor NABCB.
Various topics like WTO agreement on standard and conformity and their assessment, accreditation: the global and national infrastructure and its benefits, understanding conformity assessment, national measurement system in India and its international linkages, challenges of standards and conformity assessment and emerging regulatory regime will be discussed in the day long sessions, the Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) stated in a news update.
