  • DIMAPUR — Indus Towers Limited, one of the world’s largest telecom infrastructure company, in association with the Northeast Centre for Equity Action on Integrated Development (NEAID), on Tuesday inaugurated well-equipped and hygienic washroom facilities for girl students at Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) in Tuli town under Mokokchung district.

  • The newly constructed sanitation infrastructure was inaugurated by Relise Sangtam, additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of Tuli, in the presence of Sentinenla, district education officer (DEO) of Mokokchung under the sanitation, health and hygiene initiative of the Indus Towers.

  • The initiative was part of Indus Towers' flagship corporate social responsibility programme ‘Pragati’ and aligned with the Government of India’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. The objective was to provide safe sanitation facilities, thereby improving health and hygiene, fostering a conducive environment for education, stated an update from the organisation.

  • Speaking at the inaugural event, the ADC has termed as a significant step for GHSS, Tuli. He stated that clean and safe hygiene infrastructure is essential for students to thrive, especially young girls, whose education often suffers because of a lack of such basic amenities.

  • “This initiative is not just about infrastructure—it’s about ensuring dignity, equity and opportunity for all. I urge the school and the community to work together to maintain these facilities for future generations. We must support more Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives in this region, as investing in education infrastructure today will ensure a brighter tomorrow for our society,” Sangtam said.

  • Rajendra Singh Gurung, circle chief executive officer (CEO) of Indus Towers Limited, stated that hygienic and well-maintained sanitation facilities play a vital role in fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment. He added that through Indus Towers’ flagship CSR programme ‘Pragati,’ they aim to address critical infrastructure gaps in infrastructure and empower communities.

  • “Collaborating with NEAID on this initiative is a testament to our dedication to enabling equitable access to education, particularly for girl students and contributing to the Government of India’s vision for a healthier and more inclusive society,” Gurung said.

  • “This initiative goes beyond providing basic facilities; it seeks to foster increased self-confidence and self-esteem among students by ensuring a clean and safe environment. It also aims to build a comprehensive hygiene ecosystem within school premises, contributing to the overall well-being of the community,” he added.

  • The DEO has expressed gratitude to Indus Towers and NEAID for their invaluable support in setting up sanitation facilities for girls at GHSS, Tuli. She expressed that access to clean and safe sanitation not only ensures dignity but also positively impact attendance and academic performance, particularly for young girls.

  • “This collaboration exemplifies how partnerships between the government, private sector, and community can bring transformative change. Let us all take responsibility to maintain these facilities and continue working toward providing every child with the resources to succeed,” Sentinenla said.

  • Meanwhile, Meraj Ahmed, co-founder of NEAID, Guwahati, said, “we are delighted to collaborate with Indus Towers in setting up dedicated sanitation facilities for girls and conduct of menstrual hygiene workshop for students at GHSS, Tuli. Such initiatives address a critical need, empowering young girls to pursue education in a healthy and safe environment. By working together, we can transform the educational landscape of the region and inspire hope for a brighter future.”
