Dimapur, Aug. 30 (EMN): Considering the need for capacity building programme for various functionaries and stakeholders, the Child Protection Services, Nagaland department of Social Welfare organised a three-day induction training for the newly members of Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) and Child Welfare Committee (CWC) for the tenure 2019-22 from August 27 to the 29th at the premises of Mount Tabor Retreat House at Kohima.
Assistant Director, National Institute of Public Cooperation and Child Development (NIPCCD) Guwahati, Thangzamavi Guite was the resource person of the training programme, informed an update from Child Protection Services Nagaland. It added that a total of 84 participants from 11 districts of the state were trained on the Juvenile Justice Act 2015, Protection of Children from Sexual Offence (POCSO) Act, Legal Adoption Procedures, and United Nation Convention of Child Rights (UNCRC).
As mandated by the Juvenile Justice Act, the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) is established in each district as the final authority to dispose of cases for the care, protection, treatment, development and rehabilitation of Children in Need of Care & Protection (CNCP) and to provide for their basic needs and protection of human rights, read the update. It added that JJB is set up in each district to deal with matters relating to juveniles in Conflict with Law (CCL).
Children in Need of Care and Protection (CNCP) include missing and found children, orphaned, abandoned children, destitute children, differently-abled children, children of family at risk, substance abuser, HIV infected-affected children, children affected by disaster or conflict, abused children, trafficked children, child labour, street children, or any other vulnerable children in distress situation, informed the update.
The CWC and JJB members are selected for a term of three years.
