
Resource persons and ASHAs pose for a photograph after the
inaugural programme of a five-day induction training in Mon town on Tuesday.
- DIMAPUR — A
five-day induction training programme for urban Accredited Social Health
Activists (ASHA), organised by District Health Society, Mon, under National
Urban Health Mission (NUHM) got underway on Tuesday at the conference hall of
the chief medical officer (CMO) in Mon town.
- Speaking at the inaugural programme, Dr. Supongmenla
Walling, CMO of Mon, welcomed all the resource persons from the state as well
as all the new urban ASHAs of Mon town. She urged the ASHAs to learn all the
topics covered in the five days training programme and also discharge their
responsibilities with honesty and sincerity.
- Dr. Aonungdok Tushi Ao, deputy CMO and nodal officer for
ASHA programme, gave a brief concept of ASHA and explained that they are the
first point of contact with the community. He added that ASHA play an important
role in the health department.

- He also asked all the attendees to clarify any doubts and
ask questions in order to learn more effectively, an update from CMO stated.
- Chubala Pongen, senior programme manager (community
processes) from the directorate of Health and Family Welfare, thanked the
district programme management unit, Mon, and welcomed all the new ASHAs.
- It stated that resource persons namely Subonglemla Jamir,
consultant of NUHM, Kohima district; Sentirenla Longchar, consultant of NUHM,
Mokokchung district; and Chubala Pongen conducted sessions on being an ASHA;
ASHA activities; ASHA essential skills; maternal health; child health;
home-based newborn care (HBNC); incentives; recording and reporting.
