
DIMAPUR — Wokha division of the Health department conducted an induction training for urban Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) under National Urban Health Mission (NUHM) from August 1 to the 5th in the conference hall of the chief medical officer (CMO) in Wokha town.
Speaking at the inaugural programme, the CMO of Wokha, Dr. Zubenthung Kikon, encouraged the ASHA to be attentive during the training so that they would be able to provide better services as community healthcare workers in their respective colonies.
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=1]An update from the CMO office stated that Chubala Pongen, state ASHA nodal officer, and Supong, urban consultant, were the resource persons of the induction training programme.
It stated that sessions on activities of ASHA, pregnancy diagnosis, birth preparedness, examination of new born at birth, breastfeeding, common childhood problems, immunisation, managing asphyxia, diagnosing neonatal sepsis, evaluation of ASHA, referral etc. were taken by the resource persons.
Besides, ASHA were also given practical demonstration on how to weigh a baby using weighing scale and usage of thermometer during home-based new born care visit.
It stated that an interactive session was held in the presence of Dr. Nyanthung Kikon, NUHM state nodal officer, on the fourth day of the training. During the interactive session, issues and challenges faced by the ASHA were discussed and suggestions on way forward were presented by Dr. Kikon.
A total of 26 urban ASHA, 6 block ASHA coordinators, NUHM consultant and district community mobiliser attended the training.
