Indo-Myanmar-Thailand friendship motor car rally reaches Kohima

KOHIMA, NOVEMBER 21: The Indo-Myanmar-Thailand friendship motor car rally has reached Kohima on Monday evening. Parliamentary secretary for Youth Resources & Sport, Khriehu Liezietsu and officials welcomed the participants of the rally. The rally will be officially flagged off by Chief Minister, TR Zeliang at Kohima local ground on November 22 at 7:45 am. The rally was flagged off from India Gate in New Delhi on November 13 that will cover a distance of 5,722 kilometres along The India-Myanmar-Thailand Trilateral Highway with about 80 participants from all the three countries, in 20 Indian made vehicles on a journey from Delhi to Bangkok over 19 days. It was informed that the riders from India will be joined by two vehicles from Nagaland, six vehicles from Myanmar and four vehicles from Thailand.After the flag-off, the riders will proceed to Imphal–Myanmar-Thailand. The convoy will be holding up at Imphal on Tuesday and another night at Moreh and is scheduled to reach Thailand on December 2. Interacting with media persons after reaching Kohima, the riders lamented the road conditions ‘it was very disappointing to see the deplorable road conditions in Nagaland’. Some riders remarked ‘the roads should be as beautiful as the people’. However, they were optimistic that this rally will improve the road condition in the future as teams from National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and Doordarshan have accompanied the riders documenting the journey. The Friendship Motor Car Rally was organised which aims to improve connectivity by road in the South-East Asian region and to sensitise the stakeholders of India, Myanmar and Thailand Motor Vehicle Agreement regarding potential benefits of such a regulatory regime.
