DIMAPUR — A delegation from the Indo-German
Strategic Partnership visited the North Eastern Institute of Social Sciences
and Research (NEISSR), Chümoukedima, on December 2 for a roundtable discussion
on the theme "Indo-German strategic partnership: evolving priorities in a
changing global order”.
The session was attended by NEISSR faculty, students'
council members, Peace Channel staff, and representatives from the German
Embassy and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, stated a press release.
During the meeting, Elizabeth Pojar provided an overview of
NEISSR’s vision and mission, emphasising the institution's role in fostering
social sciences research and promoting peace. Following this, the discussions
focused on the evolving nature of Indo-German collaboration, covering
historical, cultural, political, and economic perspectives.
Key insights were shared on various aspects of bilateral
relations. A German representative highlighted the legacy of Konrad Adenauer
and the role of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) in rebuilding post-war
Germany, emphasising the shared values of democracy and global peace that form
the foundation of the Indo-German partnership.
Discussions also explored the deep cultural and spiritual
ties between India and Germany, with a focus on the global reach of Christianity
and its significance in both nations.
Looking to the future, participants discussed how
demographic differences, such as India’s youthful population and Germany’s
ageing demographic, could be leveraged for synergies in areas like education,
renewable energy, and global security.
In his concluding remarks, Rev. Fr. Lawrence Khing, vice
principal of NEISSR, emphasised the vital roles both India and Germany play in
promoting global peace.
