DIMAPUR — The Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur has assured the Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) of a comprehensive investigation into the alleged issuance of a fraudulent indigenous inhabitant certificate to an individual identified as Nirmal Jain.
The assurance was reportedly given following the submission of a representation by the student body on June 26. In a press statement issued on Tuesday, the DNSU said that the representation was submitted “after thorough deliberation with all its tribal units.”
“The Deputy Commissioner has assured a comprehensive investigation to ensure justice for the Naga public. DNSU stands committed to this cause and will leave no stone unturned to bring the truth to light,” the statement read.
Clarifying its position, the union emphasised that the issue is not a communal one. “This issue isn’t about Nagas and non-Nagas but it’s about the citizens of Nagaland and criminals like Nirmal Jain,” it said.

The DNSU stands firm on its resolve to protect the rights of the Nagas and will go to any extent to stop such criminals from exploiting our citizens, it added.
The student body further stated its respect for non-Naga residents who legally reside and do business in Nagaland, underscoring that it welcomes anyone operating “within the confines of the law.”
“However, we cannot allow anyone to exploit our citizens or allow such criminals to misuse and play with the system to exploit us,” it said.
The union also appealed for public solidarity, urging civil society organisations, individuals, and authorities to remain vigilant and united in protecting the identity and rights of indigenous people in Dimapur.
The DNSU further cautioned that any harm to its members would be considered a direct consequence of the ongoing issue. “The executives are currently under immense pressure following the public exposure of Nirmal Jain’s alleged illegal activities,” it said, adding that any actions of “harassment, intimidation, or targeting of its executives or members” will be met with “the full force of public exposure.”
Meanwhile, the union stated that it welcomes any fact-finding efforts by individuals or organisations. However, it cautioned that any attempt to manipulate, spread rumours or suppress its concerns—whether by individuals, civil society groups, or government officials—could result in legal action, including defamation suits, or public disclosure of those involved.
Reiterating its commitment, the union declared that it has taken an oath before the people and “before God as witness” to defend the rights of its community. It urged the people of Nagaland to remain alert and prepared, adding that it looks forward to swift and decisive action from the authorities.
