- IMPHAL — The 81st Anniversary of Flag Hoisting
Day was held at the Indian National Army (INA) Martyr’s Memorial Complex,
Moirang, in Manipur’s Bishnupur district.
- On the occasion, Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla paid homage to
Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and his comrades at the memorial complex, the
historic site where the INA first hoisted the national flag in 1944, for their
unmatched bravery and contribution to India’s independence.
- Speaking at the event, Bhalla stated that it was a moment of
deep honour and patriotic pride to commemorate one of the most historic
episodes in India’s struggle for independence. He also recalled the
significance of Moirang as the site where the INA first unfurled the Indian
tricolour, an act that symbolised resistance, hope, and the unyielding spirit
of a nation determined to be free.

honour the heroes of the past and reaffirm their commitment to the ideals they
fought for.
- Governor extends Cheiraoba greetings
- Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla has extended greetings on
the occasion of Cheiraoba, a major festival in Manipur which signifies the
beginning of the Meitei lunar New Year.
- “Cheiraoba is a time of renewal and celebration. It marks
the transition from old to the new, symbolising fresh beginnings, hope and
progress,” the governor said in his greeting message.
- “On this auspicious
occasion, let us reaffirm our commitment to peace, prosperity and harmony in
our communities.”
- He also prayed for happiness, success and wellbeing to every
household in Manipur.
- Besides the state Governor, Assembly Speaker Th. Satyabrata
Singh and others also extended Cheiraoba greetings to the people of Manipur.
- In a message, Satyabrata said, “May this day herald joy,
good health and prosperity for everyone. Let the coming year bring harmony,
growth and tranquillity to our cherished state, deepening the spirit of unity
and togetherness that unites us as Manipuris.”
- On the occasion of Cheiraoba, special dishes are prepared
from vegetables and offered to deities as part of a grand family feast. The
food is first offered by the household elders to three deities, seeking
protection for the family. Additionally, married women traditionally give gifts
to their parents and brothers, while youths pay respects and seek blessings
from their elders.
