Kohima, March 11 (EMN): Indian national football team captain and star striker Sunil Chhetri has tested positive for Covid-19, days ahead of international friendlies with Oman and United Arab Emirates (UAE) later this month.

Chhetri, who is also the team captain of Bengaluru FC, took to social media to announce his health status on Thursday.

This new development has cast doubts whether he will recover in time to play international friendlies with Oman and UAE scheduled to be played at Dubai on March 25 and 29 respectively. The All India Football Federation (AIFF) had confirmed about the return of Indian football team to action last month.

Chhetri is currently out of action after his team, Bengaluru FC, failed to make it to the semi finals in the ongoing Indian Super League (ISL) 2020-21.
