Dimapur, April 10 (EMN): Indian army fondly remembered Maj. David Manlun, recipient of Kirti Chakra (Posthumous), by unveiling his bust on April 8 in Tizit under Mon district.
Maj. Manlun laid down his life on June 6, 2017, during an encounter with ULFA (I) insurgents at Lapa village, near Tizit.
A defence release stated that his parents were present on the solemn occasion besides many military and civil dignitaries. It added that representatives from the civil administration, Anghs and village chiefs of all the neighbouring villages were present to pay their respect to the martyr.
The inscription on the epitaph stated that Maj. David Malun, an officer of 164 INF BN (TA) (H&H) Naga, was the company commander at Tizit. He was commissioned into 1 Naga on March 20, 2010. Maj. David joined 164 INF BN (TA) (H&H) Naga on December 14, 2014. During his stint with the Naga TA, he was instrumental in number of daring operations, which earned him a COAS Commendation Card in 2016.
On June 6, 2017, while performing the duties of Company Commander at Tizit Cob, he received an input about the movement of ULFA (I) cadres in general area of Lapa Lempong. Maj. David immediately moved his column along with 12 Para (SF) to intercept the ULFA (I) cadres. During the encounter, which ensued, Maj. David displayed exceptional bravery and despite being critically injured, eliminated three dreaded ULFA (I) cadres.
It added that for his act of conspicuous bravery, supreme sacrifice and leadership of the highest order, Maj. David Manlun was conferred with Kirti Chakra (Posthumous) on August 15, 2017.
