The Working Committee, Naga National Political Groups (WC-NNPG) said India must respect the United Nations Charter 1(2) which stated that one of its purposes is “To develop friendly relations among nations based on respect for the principle of equal rights and self-determination of peoples, and to take other appropriate measures to strengthen universal peace”.
Claiming that the “Agreed Position” signed between the WC-NNPG and GoI in 2017 is the “only political document of the Naga people” that has the content of the UN charter, as well as “clear and unambiguous”, the group wonders the final settlement to the Naga political issue hasn’t been arrived at despite concluding the negotiations.
It said the GoI had “installed a puppet state government at Kohima, through periodic elections to enforce Indian political and administrative occupation of Naga homeland”.
“Indian elections cannot finish the spirit of Naga nationalism. Elections have never destroyed or dampened the Naga political rights and aspirations. Every forced election in Nagaland will strengthen the Nagas to stand firm for their right,” read the press release from the group, adding that ‘the GoI leadership faces the risk of becoming world's largest democracy that fails in its commitment to end Indo-Naga political conflict through peaceful means’.
It also alleged that ‘the culture of identifying corrupt regional politicians and enticing them to either join or ally with ruling BJP party, is on a steep rise’.
Recalling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s declaration in Dubai about the Naga problem being solved and the "Election for Solution" slogan in 2018 state Assembly poll, the group alleged that the Central and state governments continue to play with the sentiment of the Naga people. Mentioning the upcoming state general election, it asked ‘if the Naga people will allow themselves to be fooled again’.
The WC-NNPG went on to say that the chief minister of Nagaland had said the opposition-less government was formed to facilitate and hasten the Indo-Naga political solution but it turned out to be a “deceitful game”.
It also stated that it will “continue to pursue what is historically and politically correct for the Naga people” and that elections will not weaken Naga people's quest for a just future.
