IMPHAL, March 22
A public meeting called by the various organisations and representatives of Manipur on Saturday condemned the dead of Muhammad Lukaman. The meeting, which was held at Moijing Idgakh Park of Thoubal district, also condemned the alleged negligence of Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh on this issue, despite of being the local MLA and the meeting decided to boycott the latter. The meeting then unanimously took a decision to call an indefinite all-Manipur general strike from 6 am of Sunday morning if the government fails to book the culprits involved in the incident and if befitting punishment is not delivered.It may be mentioned here that the death body of Mohd Lukaman was recovered from Heingang Ahallup Bazar area on the morning of March 17. His body is still lying unclaimed in the JNIMS mortuary.
The meeting, which was presided by Leishangthem Zilla Parishad member Mohd Abdul Latif, was attended by former AMUCO president KT Rahman, Pangal Students’ Organisation president Wakil Ansari among many other representatives and eminent leaders.
JAC against the brutal Killing of Md Lukman also strongly condemned and denied the accusations made in the various sections of media on March 21 that Lukman was a thief and he was killed by an angry mob after being caught.
The meeting demanded that ex-gratia should be given to the deceased’s family by the government and a judicial inquiry should be set up for this killing.
Later, all those present in the meeting also agreed to further intensify the protest and also asked for solidarity from the the civil organisations of the state.
