DIPR DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 31 Chaga-Gadi festival of Zeliang (Liangmai) was celebrated at Multi Disciplinary Sports Complex, Jalukie Town today with Minister for Rural Development, CL John as the chief guest and Peren District Planning Officer, I. Daniel Zeliang as the guest of honour with MLA Namri Nchang as the chief host.Speaking at the occasion, the chief guest said the festival is a time of joy and merry making. “Festival celebration should not be for merry-making alone, but it should also be a time to forgive and forget,” the Minister said. He also appealed the Nagas to erase tribalism from their mindset and further urged for unity and oneness among the Nagas irrespective of whichever tribe they belong to. Stating that the Nagas are lagging behind in education front and lack a sense of work culture, he advised the younger generation to inculcate the work culture practiced by our forefathers. Earlier, the welcome address was delivered by Raitu Chawang. Traditional fire making was displayed by Athun Zeliang and the significance of Chaga-Gadi festival was shared by Mathiulungbo. A folk song was presented by Kaizeng Nring and a special number by Makiulongdi Khon choir and Matu and friends. The programme was chaired by Tadambo. Chaga-Gadi is being celebrated with the belief that the Almighty will shower blessings for good harvest and good health. It is a festival of purification and sharing of resources. The celebration of Chaga-Gadi brings prosperity to the villages.
