EASTERN MIRROR: Tell us your story, where did it all start for you?Alilakge Domta: For me I can proudly say I am a fashion designer, I completed my studies from Style and Elan institute Dimapur.
I’ve had a passion for designing since my childhood with my grandma’s influence. A single strings or beads inspired me to create a design.
EASTERN MIRROR: What inspired you to become a designer?
Alilakge Domta: My Lt. Granny (my guru) inspired me a lot. She taught me how to see from a new point of view. Because of her my interest in designing has grown stronger and greater each day. She was the one who advised me and motivated me. I would say she is the woman behind who I am today.
EASTERN MIRROR: What inspires you for your designs?
Alilakge Domta: I would just like to say that my designs will give a new outlook of simplicity through a loop of thread or yarn that adds beauty just like the phrase “stitched up like a kipper”.
EASTERN MIRROR: What was/is one of your favorite projects you have worked on so far and why?
Alilakge Domta: Apart from managing my cozy ‘DOMTAS COLLECTION’ boutique and my participation in the AIDA Events Designer Hunt, till date I have not taken up any projects. But I would undeniably say my participation and the opportunity I received through Aida Events would be the best project as through the platform I experienced ideas and more importantly it made me fearless to do new things and unearth my creativity.
EASTERN MIRROR: What is the biggest fashion turnoff for you?
Alilakge Domta: For me till now there has been no big turn off in the field of when it comes to fashion as I believe that every fashion is a combination of ideas and hard work and has its own technique.
EASTERN MIRROR: Fashion tips for all our fashion lovers for the season.
Alilakge Domta: I would say continue to reign in fashion, learn and find yourself and express yourself through your clothes; whatever it is that you are wearing, just be yourself…. own it and feel “Pretty Me”.
Alilakge Domta affectionately called Veisy by her close ones is an upcoming designer based in Dimapur who has already established a name away from the limelight with her cozy boutique “Domtas Collection” situated at Signal Basti Dimapur. She believes in utilizing local fashion to give a lift to the society and persuade many others to follow the same.
