Dimapur, April 19 (EMN):
District Education Officer (DEO) Dimapur, V Bendanglila on Monday shared that it was important for teachers to develop their skills to perform their duties effectively.

She stated that lack of learning opportunities or achievements in the early stage of acquiring literacy could cumulatively impact children’s academic progress and motivation, resulting in further lack of achievement.

“And this is where the teachers’ role is very important,” she said while addressing the inaugural programme of district-level teachers training for foundational literacy and numeracy organised by the District Mission Authority-Samagra Shiksha Dimapur.

“Ensuring basic literacy and numeracy is critical for improving learning in schools and throughout life, and reading, writing and mathematics are not only foundational skills for learning but are co-related with better quality of life,” she said.

She maintained that foundational learning forms the basis of all future learning and those who fail to attain basic literacy and numeracy skill by class 3 find it difficult to catch up later with the curriculum.

She emphasised that a teacher should sincerely impart the basic foundation skills to the children in the beginning because this would be the basis of the learning process, which would then define the future. “It is our duty to help them build a strong base in the formative years and impart them quality education so that they grow to be responsible citizens tomorrow and lead us to the future,” she stated.

She appealed to the teachers to take the training as a challenge and impart quality education to the children so that they have a strong base and grow up with all the required skills to become respectable citizens.

The DEO also urged schools to have regular parent-teacher interactions to make parents aware of the needs of children.

“With all your positive skills and energy you will make a difference in the learning process of the children,” she added.

Freda Angami, the assistant district coordinator, DMA-SS, Dimapur also shared that the primary sector was the foundation of the students and the most important part of education in their life.

“And it is our duty to see that quality education is given to our children,” she added.

More than 200 teachers attended the training from UBRC Kuda and EBRC Dhansiripar at Kuda Youth Hall, Nagarjan in Dimapur. The training will continue till April 22 for EBRC Medziphema, UBRC Kuda and EBRC Dhansiripar, EBRC Kushiabill and EBRC Nuiland.
