The indefinite bandh on Imphal-Ukhrul road has affected the normal traffic along the route for the third day on Wednesday.The bandh also affects functioning of shops, business establishment including Khurai Lamlong keithel of Imphal East district of Manipur as not a single passenger vehicle was seen plying on the routel.
The indefinite road was on from Monday afternoon after the newly formed Joint Action Committee (JAC) against the brutal killing of Konsam Koroungaba made an announcement and demanded immediate booking and punishment of the policemen involved in the incident.They also demanded termination of their service as well.
In the course of the day bandh, locals mostly youths blocked the road from commuting near Imphal-Ukhrul, Imphal-Pangei road by keeping boulders and beams on the road.
Mention may be made here that, around 7.30 pm of May 17, a student Konsam Korounganba (19) son of Rajen of Khurai Konsam Leikai who recently appeared 10+2 examination, sustained serious injury while his colleague K Vivek (19) of Hiyangthang hurt at his neck when a team of state police commandoes allegedly fired towards a speeding car (Chevrolet Captiva) at Kangla Sangomsang area, about 5 km north of Imphal along Imphal-Ukhrul road when the police team signaled the car to stop for checking at Sawombung area, reports available here said. Vivek is undergoing treatment at a healthcare unit while his friend Korounganba succumbed to the injury at the hospital on Monday morning. Some of their colleagues including the driver of the car-one Ch Manoj(20) of Phubala and Chandam Premchand alias Dong(20) of Khurai were reportedly in the police custody.
