Imphal, Dec. 4 (EMN): Manipur’s state capital- Imphal and Senapati town continue to reel from low temperatures since the past few days compared to other places in Manipur, according to the environment department’s weather report.
Senapati district headquarter, a hill town located about 60 km north of Imphal along the Imphal-Mao sector of National Highway 2, which recorded a minimum temperature of 6.3 degree Celsius on Sunday has dropped down from 10 degree Celsius (November 24) to 5.17 degree Celsius (December 4) whereas the rest of the state recorded above 8 to 9 degree Celsius as minimum temperature, environment department report said.
On the other hand the minimum temperature in the state capital has dropped down from 13.2 degree Celsius to 8.8 degree Celsius on Nov. 28 onwards as per Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) records at Imphal Airport. Similarly temperature as recorded on Nov. 27 (11.6 degree Celsius) has declined to 9.2 degree Celsius on Nov. 28 as per Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) Imphal at Lamphelpat.
The minimum temperature recorded in Imphal on Monday as per IMD report was 6.2 degree Celsius while the maximum was 23.1 degree Celsius.
IMD weather forecast reports also further indicated the same mercury level in the next coming few days till Dec. 7 with fog in the morning and clear sky afterwards as weekly weather forecast of IMD. However cloudy weather with light rain may come from Dec. 8 onwards, it predicted.
Similarly minimum temperature also went down from 9 degree Celsius to 7 degree Celsius in the last four days in Imphal forcing the residents to start use charcoals or electric appliances to warm up their rooms.
Even the number of visitors at the crowded night plaza or the Imphal evenings opened on the roadsides of Kangla moat in Imphal on every Saturday and Sunday evenings since October 2 this year, has also drastically reduced on December 2 and 3 evenings. In view of the development, the state authority has also changed the timing of the Imphal Evenings from 7-10 pm to 6-9 pm. An official order has been issued in this regard on Friday.
